Proceeds from WSP leagues are used to help us run our own non-profit (Well-being Worlwide) and to work with other non-profits and companies in our pursuit to improve opportunities for young people - here in NY and abroad.
Our local causes:
In 2010, when we first started the WSP, we worked with the non-profit funding arm of NYC Schools (The Fund for Public Schools). Our focus was to help bring crucial after-school programming to under-funded schools, particularly health and fitness activities. Not surprisingly, we decided that soccer was the way forward. In 2011, we started NYC's first soccer league (the NYISL) for small, independent schools, which do not have the financial, human or physical capital to offer their students an after-school sports league.
In late 2012, we decided that we'd continue these efforts more independently and so, by 2013, formed our own non-profit program, Well-being Worldwide.
First and foremost, Well-being Worldwide is about helping out locally: by attempting to improve the well-being of under-served youth where we live, work and play.
Well-being Worldwide receives financial assistance and volunteers from the WSP, in order to run the NYISL. We're also developing a similar youth soccer program in Albany, the State capital.
WSP/Wellbeing Worldwide have also recently partnered with the New York branch of the national non-profit, America SCORES. Proceeds from our Manhattan Indoor league go to the America SCORES New York program for underserved youth in Harlem, as well as towards the NYISL.
As the names suggest, the World Soccer Project and Well-Being Worldwide also work in other countries. Since January 2012, we've been working closely with The Wishi Project to improve health and education in remote, under-resourced regions of Ecuador (see below for more details).

Our international cause:
Player registration fees from WSP leagues also help to support the Wishi Project - a non-profit (based in Albany, NY) that builds, staffs and supplies schools in underserved regions of Latin America.
In short, there's a lot that goes on 'off the pitch' at the WSP. We're much more than a provider of soccer leagues - but soccer is where it starts.
